Can dental fillings be done during lactation?
Breastfeeding mothers are generally advised against getting dental fillings as it may compromise the quality of breast milk, which is detrimental to the baby's growth. During dental filling procedures in the breastfeeding period, anesthetic drugs are typically used. These drugs can enter the body through human metabolism, potentially affecting the quality of breast milk and increasing the bacterial content in it, thereby raising the risk of infectious diseases for the baby. It is recommended to wait until breastfeeding is stopped before undergoing dental restoration or to stop breastfeeding for a period after the restoration.
For deciduous teeth, necrotic enamel needs to be cleaned and then local root canal filling is performed to alleviate inflammation and promote its absorption. Once the inflammation subsides, resin or composite materials can be used to restore the tooth's appearance and shape.
After dental restoration, proper daily care is essential to avoid chewing hard foods frequently. In cases of severe enamel damage, dental crowns or braces may be necessary to protect the teeth and extend their lifespan.
